Purpose. Clarity. Impact: What GROW Mentorship Gave Me at a Crucial Crossroad

Content

As I approached the close of my third decade, one of the most transformative experiences I encountered was the GROW Mentorship Programme (Cohort 4) - a sacred, year-long journey curated by CivSource Africa and CivLegacy Foundation. We wrapped up on June 3rd, 2025, and I left that final session with a heart full of gratitude and clarity.

When I joined GROW, I had a full plate: a new and exciting professional role, a growing mission through The Couple Binders, and multiple roles as a wife, mother, mentor, and friend. Life was full — and fast. But something in me needed to slow down. To process. To listen inward. To realign with where I was being led.

GROW became that soul space.

It wasn’t just about gaining new tools, it was about refining my inner compass and finding language for what I had long carried in my spirit.

Reclaiming Clarity, Purpose, and Pace

Through five powerful modules, one-on-one coaching, honest peer reflections, and life-giving facilitation, GROW helped me reclaim what so many women struggle to find: clarity in the midst of abundance.

One question during our Johari Window session unlocked something significant:

“If you had unlimited time and resources, what would you do?”

That question lingered with me. I prayed through it. Journaled through it. Filtered everything through it.

Eventually, it helped me distill my mission for this season into something simple, yet deeply true:

“Excel in all endeavours, honouring God with my best efforts.”

GROW didn’t just introduce new knowledge, it reminded me of truths I had drifted from. Among the most impactful takeaways:

  • The power of reflection. Life doesn’t pause, but growth demands that we do. Slowing down is where wisdom meets clarity.

  • Honouring the body. A session by Jackie Asiimwe reminded me that my body, often overworked or critiqued, is the sacred vessel that carries my purpose.

  • Financial clarity. “A goal without a plan is just a wish.” That was a holy wake-up call. I sat with my dreams and made strategic shifts - some loud, others quiet.

  • My story matters. I was reminded: “Don’t be ashamed of your story. It will inspire others.” Since then, I’ve leaned more into storytelling,  for healing, for legacy.

And perhaps most memorably:

“Trees don’t consume their own fruits.”

A powerful reminder that what I carry is meant to nourish others.

The Fruit of GROW: Thrive Oh Wife 19

One of the most tangible outcomes of my GROW journey was the birth of Thrive Oh Wife 19, launched on May 19th, 2025 - my 40th birthday.

It’s a sacred space for women, especially wives and aspiring wives, to grow. A dream I had shelved for long, unsure of the how, now fully alive and thriving. It complements the work my husband and I already do through The Couple Binders, but with a special focus on women.

Because I’ve seen it first-hand:

When a woman grows, everything around her shifts — homes, marriages, communities, legacy.

Every 19th of the month, I host a space (currently online from 7:00pm). 90 minutes of heartfelt conversation, reflection, healing, and community. We talk about faith, marriage, identity, burnout, joy… all of it. No masks. No pressure to perform. Just presence.

A Journey Still Unfolding

As we wrapped up the GROW journey, one of my final coaching sessions summed it up beautifully:

“You already knew your priorities, Lucy. This year helped you figure out the how — how to choose pace over pressure, how to walk with grace, how to prioritize your priorities.”

Indeed, GROW didn’t just grow me. It grounded me.

I’ve learned that expansion isn’t always about doing more. Sometimes, it’s about being more anchored in what truly matters.

As I embrace this new decade, I carry with me:

  • A deeper appreciation of who I am

  • A clearer sense of purpose

  • And a commitment to walk this path with courage, consistency, discipline, and authenticity.

To the CivSource and CivLegacy teams, especially our beloved “Headmistress”, and my fellow Cohort 4 colleagues, the programme facilitators and coaches, THANK YOU! thank. And to my husband, who shifted programmes and made sacrifices to support me through this journey, thank you for witnessing its climax with me.

GROW was not just a programme. It was a becoming.
